Jacket offensive line pummels Hornets
by Grace Dawson Sports writer

It was a clean sweep for the Bluejackets on Aug. 29, 2008 against Big Lake with the first win of the season, 49-0.

"The kids were really excited, and I think it was an exciting game. It was a pretty dominating performance, and we're pleased with the result," said Head Coach Todd Larkin. "There are some things we need to work out, but each year a new group of seniors step up and take over leadership."

Quarterback Eric Johnson plunged into the end zone for the first touchdown of the evening with five minutes left in the first quarter on a nine-yard run. Chad Larrabee's kick was good to round out the first quarter at 7-0.

The scoreboard flashed another five times in the second quarter as Tony Nelson scored on a two-yard run, six and nine-yard touchdowns by Christian Metz, and a 39-yard pass from Johnson to Carl Thomas. Chad Larrabee added to the CI score by kicking three extra points.

"[Larrabee] is a nice weapon to have and a great addition to the program. It was his first football game, and he did an outstanding job," Larkin said.

Then, Big Lake centered the ball over the punter's head into the end zone for a two-point Jacket safety that accumlated to a big 29-point second quarter.

The third quarter was relatively quiet compared to the second. Jesse Langmade scored on a nine-yard run followed by Larrabee for the extra point.

The CI defensive held the Hornets at bay in the fourth quarter while Cody Reilly slipped in for the seventh touchdown of the night.

Metz led the team with 117 yards and 12 carries. Langmade had 65 yards, Thomas had 41 yards, and Aaron Dunbar had 39 yards.

Eric Johnson completed three passes on three attempts for 72 yards. Larrabee had six punts for 333 yards, an average of 55.5 yards a kick.

Marcus Dahlquist and Tony Nelson both had five tackles apiece and Matt Sedlock had four.

C-I completed 20 first downs to Big Lake's eight and rushed for 330 yards with 402 offensive yards.
