The Cambridge-Isanti volleyball team whipped neighboring North Branch 25-11, 25-20, 27-25 on Tuesday, Sept. 2, to chalk up their second victory of the season. The Jackets suffered their only setback to Forest Lake 25-10, 25-20, 25-11 on Thursday, Aug. 28.
FOREST LAKE
After a come-from-behind victory over Spring Lake Park two days earlier, the Cambridge-Isanti volleyball team couldn't muster much of a challenge against a very good Forest Lake team and fell convincingly 25-10, 25-20, 25-11.
"We made a lot of errors," described C-I coach Vicki Courts. "35 of Forest Lake's 41 points were because we had a ball-handling error, missed a serve, or a hitting error. This was a good time for us to learn that we need to come to each match ready to work hard and control the ball."
Jacket Melina Iverson had three kills for C-I while Liz Johnson had eight assists, Tabby Holmquist seven digs and one service ace. Grace Nelson came through with six blocks and Kayla Horbacz had four blocks.
NORTH BRANCH
Cambridge-Isanti came to play at North Branch as the Bluejackets up-ended the Vikings 25-11, 25-20, 27-25.
"The girls did a nice job rebounding from a poor performance against Forest Lake," stated coach Courts. "I am really proud of how thy handled themselves. At times they really played hard and well. They served tough and made it difficult for North Branch to get in a rhythm offensively."
Johnson was outstanding in making 22 assists for the Jackets. Melina Iverson had nine kills with sister Alana Iverson leading C-I in service points with 12. Holmquist had four digs and six kills while Mary Beth Zins had four blocks.
